JFK Tapered roller bearings

JFK roller bearings

  • High combined loads
  • Tilting moments
  • Contact angle up to 30°

Tapered roller bearings, also known as conical roller bearings, are generally separable bearings with tapered raceways on both the inner and outer rings, designed to withstand high radial loads, axial loads and tilting moments. The line contact between rollers and raceways provides higher load capacity than ball bearings, while the contact angle determines the distribution between radial and axial load components: the larger the angle, the higher the axial load capacity.

JFK Group offers single-row tapered roller bearings in the 302, 303, 313, 320, 322, 323, 329, 330, 331, 332, and T series.

Tapered roller bearings are generally separable: the inner ring with the roller and cage assembly (cone) can be separated from the outer ring (cup), simplifying mounting. They are also available in IKOS Design: pre-set, non-separable units with factory-defined preload, ready for installation without adjustment.

Tapered roller bearings are generally mounted in pairs or in O or X arrangements to handle axial loads in both directions. Typical applications include gearboxes, transmissions, vehicle wheels, machine tools, construction machinery and agricultural applications.

Versions

How to choose the right tapered roller bearing

The selection mainly depends on the magnitude of the axial load, the need for clearance adjustment during mounting, and the available installation space.

  1. Standard single-row tapered roller bearings

The most widely used version. Separable tapered roller bearings consisting of a cone (inner ring with roller and cage assembly) and a cup (outer ring). The logarithmic profile of the rolling surfaces ensures optimal stress distribution and eliminates edge stresses. Axial clearance or preload is adjusted during mounting by positioning the cone and cup. To be mounted in pairs or in O or X arrangements to handle axial loads in both directions. Separable · Logarithmic profile · Mounting clearance adjustment

  2. IKOS Design tapered roller bearings

Pre-set non-separable units with factory-defined preload. They eliminate the need for mounting adjustment, reducing installation time and ensuring consistent and repeatable performance. IKOS Design tapered roller bearings are suitable for applications where preload accuracy is critical or where field adjustment is not feasible. Factory-defined preload · Ready to install · No adjustments required

Performances

Design and performance features

Tapered raceways and logarithmic roller profile for high combined loads and long operating life.

Benefit

Tolerances

Normal (PN) as standard Manufactured with Normal (PN) tolerance as standard. Available in P6 and P5 upon request.

Benefit

Load

Radial loads, axial loads, and tilting moments The conical geometry allows the bearing to support radial loads, axial loads and tilting moments simultaneously. The axial load capacity increases with the contact angle.

Benefit

Roller geometry

Logarithmic for optimal distribution The logarithmic profile of the rolling surfaces of tapered roller bearings ensures uniform stress distribution along the entire roller length, eliminating edge stresses and increasing operating life.

Benefit

Mounting

Generally in pairs Tapered roller bearings are generally mounted in pairs or in O or X arrangements to handle axial loads in both directions. Axial clearance or preload is adjusted by changing the relative position of the cone and cup. IKOS Design versions do not require adjustment.

Benefit

Separability

Separable cone and cup The separability of the cone and cup significantly simplifies mounting and component replacement, allowing the two elements to be installed independently.

Benefit

Internal clearance

Adjusted during mounting for standard version For the standard version, axial clearance or preload is set during mounting. For IKOS Design, preload is factory-defined and requires no adjustment.

Mounting

Mounting of tapered roller bearings

Standard tapered roller bearings are generally mounted in pairs. Axial clearance or preload is adjusted by changing the relative position of the cone and cup: this adjustment is essential to ensure the expected performance. For IKOS Design versions, preload is factory-defined and no adjustment is required.

Installation Mounting

  1. O-shaped arrangementThe load lines diverge towards the axis. The tapered roller bearing supports axial loads in both directions with high rigidity. Suitable for applications with significant tilting moments.
  2. X-shaped arrangementThe load lines converge towards the axis. It supports axial loads in both directions with lower rigidity than the O arrangement. Less suitable for applications with high tilting moments.
  3. IKOS Design InstallationPre-set unit ready for installation. Preload is factory-defined: no adjustment required. Fast installation with guaranteed and repeatable performance.
