JFK thrust roller bearings

JFK roller bearings

  • High axial loads
  • High shock resistance
  • Reduced axial space

Roller thrust bearings, also known as thrust roller bearings, are separable axial bearings featuring cylindrical rollers as rolling elements, designed to support high axial loads in a single direction. Compared with ball thrust bearings, cylindrical rollers offer higher load capacity, superior rigidity and excellent resistance to shock loads. Their compact axial design makes them suitable for applications with limited installation space and low to medium rotational speeds.

JFK Group offers cylindrical roller thrust bearings in series 811 and 812. The bearings feature a separable design, allowing the individual components to be installed separately: shaft washer (WS), housing washer (GS) and cylindrical roller and cage assembly (K). Each JFK cylindrical roller thrust bearing is available in two configurations: single-direction as standard, or double-direction on request (ZS), obtained by combining two single-direction bearing sets with an intermediate washer.

Roller thrust bearing selection guide

The selection between single-direction and double-direction designs depends on the direction of the applied axial load. The single-direction design — available as standard — is suitable for axial loads acting in one direction only, whereas the double-direction design accommodates axial loads in both directions.

  1. Single-direction cylindrical roller thrust bearings

Available as standard in series 811 and 812. The bearing consists of a shaft washer (WS), housing washer (GS) and roller and cage assembly (K), all of which can be installed separately. Designed to accommodate axial loads in one direction only. Single-direction axial loads · Separable design · Simplified installation

  2. Double-direction cylindrical roller thrust bearings

Available on request. The double-direction design is obtained by combining the components of two single-direction bearing sets with an intermediate washer (ZS) featuring internal or external centering. Intermediate washers must have the same material quality and hardness as the bearing washers. Double-direction axial loads · ZS intermediate washer · Available on request

Performances

Design and performance features

Cylindrical rollers with a crowned end profile designed to eliminate edge stresses and ensure extended service life.

Benefit

Construction

Separable components Shaft washers (WS), housing washers (GS) and roller and cage assemblies (K) can be used independently or combined with other bearing components. Available as separate individual parts.

Benefit

Tolerances

Normal (PN) as standard Manufactured with Normal (PN) tolerance as standard. Available in P6 and P5 upon request for larger sizes.

Benefit

Load

High axial load capacity, high shock resistance Compared with ball thrust bearings, cylindrical roller thrust bearings offer higher axial load capacity. Also known as roller thrust bearings, they are designed to accommodate high axial loads, providing superior rigidity and excellent resistance to shock loads. For JFK Group bearings, the minimum applied load must be 5% of the basic dynamic load rating.

Benefit

Roller geometry

Tapered at the ends The cylindrical roller surface features a slight taper towards the ends. This optimized contact profile prevents harmful edge stresses from developing, extending the bearing service life.

Benefit

Speed

Low and medium rotational speeds Cylindrical roller thrust bearings are suitable for low to medium rotational speeds. They cannot compensate for angular misalignment between the shaft and housing, or for out-of-square conditions of the mounting surfaces.

Benefit

Cages

Polyamide cages for smaller sizes, solid brass or steel cages for larger sizes Polyamide 6.6 cages (TVP, suitable for temperatures up to +120°C) are used for small-size bearings. Solid brass cages (MB) or solid steel cages (FB) are used for larger bearing sizes. For high-temperature applications or demanding operating conditions, JFK Group recommends the use of metallic cages.

Mounting

Roller thrust bearing mounting

Cylindrical roller thrust bearings cannot accommodate any angular misalignment between the shaft and housing, nor any squareness errors of the mounting surfaces. The separable components can be mounted individually. During start-up at low temperatures or with high-viscosity lubricants, an increased minimum load may be required.

Installation Mounting

  1. Installation methodsShaft washers (WS), housing washers (GS) and roller and cage assemblies (K) can be installed separately. For the double-direction design, an intermediate washer (ZS) with internal or external centering is added between the two bearing sets.
  2. Preloading by springs or locknutWhen the weight of the components is insufficient to meet the required minimum load, the bearing must be preloaded by means of springs or a shaft locknut.
