Sealing, damping, and protection: functions and selection parameters
Sealing, damping, and protection systems perform three distinct but often complementary functions: retaining lubricants and excluding contaminants, isolating vibrations between machinery and supporting structures, and protecting surfaces against abrasive wear. The choice of the right product depends on the type of movement to be sealed or isolated, the direction of dynamic loads, and the required abrasion resistance based on the operating cycle. JFK Group distributes and supplies the complete range: every product is selected, inspected, and backed by technical support.
JFK sealing systems
Sealing rings (oil seals), O-rings, and NILOS rings in NBR, FKM/Viton®, and PTFE to prevent lubricant leakage and protect internal components from contaminants.
JFK vibration isolators
Cylindrical silent blocks, rubber buffers, and conical mounts in rubber and metal, designed to absorb shocks, isolate vibrations, and reduce noise transmission between machinery and supporting structures.SELECTION GUIDE
Things to consider before making a choice
The choice between the three product families depends on the main function required: containing a fluid, isolating a vibration, or protecting a surface from wear. In some cases, requirements overlap, for example when both damping and abrasion resistance are needed.
For sealing applications, the choice of elastomer material depends on the operating temperature and chemical compatibility with the fluid in contact. For vibration isolation, the predominant working direction and load magnitude are key factors. For abrasion protection, the choice between polyurethane materials depends on the required hardness, compressibility, and weather resistance.
Solutions
Find the right solution for your application
01
Do you need to retain a lubricant or prevent contaminants from entering?
Sealing rings are designed for rotating shafts; O-rings are used in high-pressure static and dynamic applications; NILOS rings are mounted directly on bearings to protect them from dust and external contaminants.
Suitable product families
02
Do you need to isolate vibrations between machinery and the supporting structure?
Rubber-to-metal vibration isolators absorb shocks and isolate vibrations: cylindrical silent blocks for compact, multidirectional operation; rubber buffers for floor mounting and leveling; and conical mounts for maximum deflection and low natural frequency.
Suitable product families
03
Do you have surfaces subject to heavy abrasive wear?
Vulkollan®, Elastopal®, and Cellasto® polyurethane materials offer superior abrasion resistance compared with standard rubber, for wheels, coatings, scrapers, and components subject to continuous wear. Damping and abrasion protection

04
Do you need damping with high compressibility?
When high compressibility combined with low permanent set is required—for end-stop buffers and foundations for vibrating machinery—polyurethane materials such as Cellasto® offer superior damping performance compared with traditional vibration isolators.
