JFK damping and abrasion protection

High-performance polyurethane materials for the most demanding applications

Vulkollan®, Elastopal®, and Cellasto® sheets and rods: the complete range for damping and wear protection.

JFK Group offers high-performance polyurethane materials in sheets and rods for damping, abrasion protection, and acoustic insulation. Three specialized materials cover a wide range of requirements: Vulkollan® for maximum abrasion resistance and versatility; Elastopal® for superior mechanical strength compared with rubber, combined with excellent weather resistance; and Cellasto® for damping applications requiring high compressibility and low permanent deformation. Positioned between elastic rubber and hard plastics, these materials are available as polyurethane sheets, rods, strips, and profiles, and can be machined using machine tools and bonded to metal.

Three materials for every damping requirement

The choice depends on the specific load conditions, the required hardness, the need for compressibility, and the type of application.

Vulkollan®

Hardness 65° Shore A – 70 Shore D · Excellent abrasion resistance · Can be bonded to metal Maximum abrasion resistance and high impact elasticity, including in rigid grades, with low permanent deformation and good resistance to mineral oils, greases, and solvents. Available in three forms: solid cast, solid pressed, and expanded cellular, the latter with densities from 350 to 650 kg/m³. Machinable using machine tools and suitable for bonding to metal parts. Typical applications include wheels and rollers, transmission couplings, seals and scrapers, screens and cyclone separators, springs, shock absorbers, and screen-printing squeegees.

Elastopal®

Hardness 60–95 Shore A · UV and weather resistance · Can be bonded to metal Superior mechanical strength compared with standard rubber, with resistance to hydrocarbons, oils, and greases, as well as excellent resistance to weathering, ozone, and UV radiation. Easily machinable using machine tools, it is also suitable for small production runs and prototypes. Typical applications include snowplow blade knives, internal silo linings, conveyor belt scrapers, cleaning blades for asphalt rollers, impact buffers, and fenders for port facilities.

Cellasto®

BASF microcellular elastomer · High compressibility · Low permanent set

BASF microcellular polyurethane elastomer (NDI-based), with high volumetric compressibility, minimal lateral expansion, and low permanent set, combined with high tensile, tear, and abrasion resistance. Resistant to oils, greases, and ozone, and free of cadmium. The preferred choice for buffers and isolators requiring high damping performance. Typical applications include end-stop buffers for automotive and motorcycle shock absorbers, roller coverings for paper mills, thickness sheets for foundations of vibrating machinery, and noise and vibration isolation.

SELECTION GUIDE

Start by identifying the operating conditions

JFK polyurethane materials cover a wide range of applications: from material handling with wheels subject to heavy wear, to acoustic isolation of machinery foundations, and shock absorbers requiring high compressibility. Start with the operating condition that best describes your application.

Maximum abrasion resistance

For polyurethane wheels and forklift and conveyor rollers, where high abrasion resistance and low permanent set extend service life.

Weather resistance

For scrapers, blades, and protective coatings exposed to weathering and UV radiation, where Elastopal® maintains its mechanical properties over time.

Maximum compressibility and damping

For end-stop buffers in shock absorbers and foundation sheets for vibrating machinery, where high compressibility and low permanent set ensure consistent performance over time.
