JFK self-aligning ball bearings

JFK ball bearings

  • Tapered bore available
  • Misalignment compensation
  • Lower friction compared to radial ball bearings

Self-aligning ball bearings are non-separable, double-row radial ball bearings with a spherical raceway on the outer ring. This feature allows the bearing to self-align, compensating for angular misalignment between the shaft and housing caused by shaft deflection or mounting errors. Among rolling bearings, self-aligning ball bearings have the lowest internal friction, allowing operation without overheating even at high speeds.

JFK Group offers self-aligning ball bearings with both cylindrical and tapered bores. The tapered-bore version allows quick installation on cylindrical shafts using adapter or withdrawal sleeves, without the need for additional axial locking devices. Available with integrated contact seals (2RS) for enhanced protection against contaminants.

Self-aligning ball bearings are ideal for low radial loads or for applications with medium to high combined radial loads and low axial loads. When the load capacity is insufficient, they can be replaced with spherical roller bearings, which offer the same self-aligning capability with higher load capacity.

Versions

How to choose the right self-aligning radial bearing

Le versioni differiscono per materiale, capacità di carico, temperatura massima e condizioni d’impiego.

  1. Self-aligning radial ball bearings with cylindrical bore

Standard version. Available with integrated contact seals (2RS) for protection against contaminants and lifetime lubrication. Sealed versions have a maximum speed limited to 2/3 of the speed of open bearings lubricated with grease. Polyamide cages are used for small and medium sizes, while solid brass cages are used for larger sizes. Standard version · Seals available · Polyamide or brass cages

  2. Self-aligning radial ball bearings with tapered bore

Tapered bore with a 1:12 taper (K suffix) for mounting on cylindrical shafts using adapter or withdrawal sleeves. Simplifies installation and removal without the need for additional axial locking devices. Adapter sleeves are supplied complete with locknuts and locking devices. Simplified installation · Adapter sleeves · No additional axial locking

Performances

Design and performance features

The spherical raceway on the outer ring and low internal friction ensure self-aligning capability and reliable performance even in the presence of misalignment.

Benefit

Self-aligning capability

Angular misalignment compensation The spherical raceway on the outer ring compensates for angular misalignment between the shaft and housing. Self-aligning ball bearings are the ideal choice where shaft deflection or alignment errors are expected.

Benefit

Friction

Lowest friction among all rolling bearings They have the lowest internal friction among all rolling bearings, allowing them to operate without overheating even at high speeds.

Benefit

Load

Low radial and axial loads Ideal for low radial loads or for applications with medium to high combined radial loads and low axial loads. For higher loads, spherical roller bearings should be considered.

Benefit

Internal clearance

Normal CN clearance as standard, increased clearance available Products supplied with normal internal clearance (CN) as standard. Available with increased clearance C3 or C4, or reduced clearance C2, depending on the application.

Benefit

Seal

Contact seals available The sealed versions (2RS, K-2RS) provide enhanced protection against contaminants and lifetime lubrication. Standard NBR material is suitable for temperatures from –40°C to +120°C (short-term), with the maximum speed reduced to 2/3.

Benefit

Cages

Made of polyamide or solid brass Polyamide for small and medium-sized bearings; solid brass for larger sizes.

Mounting

Installation of self-aligning radial ball bearings

Self-aligning ball bearings are mounted with an interference fit on the shaft. For tapered-bore versions, installation is carried out using adapter or withdrawal sleeves on a cylindrical shaft. Sealed versions must not be washed.

Installation Mounting

  1. Installation methodsUsing a mounting tool that applies the force to the inner ring. Never apply force through the rolling elements.
  2. Installation with adapter sleeve (tapered bore)For bearings with tapered bore K: quick installation on cylindrical shafts without additional axial locking devices. The sleeves are supplied complete with locknuts and locking devices.
