DJA MOND dry self-lubricating bushings

Self-lubricating bushings

  • Dry-running self-lubricating
  • Maintenance-free

DJA MOND dry-running self-lubricating bushings are solid metal sliding elements featuring PTFE and/or graphite-based solid lubricant inserts. Depending on the selected version, they are available as PTFE or graphite dry-running bushings. During operation, graphite releases a thin lubricating film onto the mating surfaces, preventing direct metal-to-metal contact without the need for external lubrication. The result is a maintenance-free component, suitable for operation from –40°C to +300°C.

The solid metal structure (steel, bronze, sintered bronze or cast iron depending on the series) ensures high load capacity and excellent wear resistance, even under severe operating conditions. Solid PTFE and graphite inserts are evenly distributed across the sliding surface, providing consistent lubrication throughout the component’s entire service life, without the need for periodic maintenance.

Compared with relubricable bushings and traditional plain bearings, the DJA MOND dry-running self-lubricating version is the ideal choice when maintenance access is difficult or impossible, when the application cannot tolerate grease or oil contamination, or when operating conditions such as extreme temperatures, dusty environments, high loads and slow movements make traditional lubrication ineffective. Industries such as industrial handling, presses, agriculture and metallurgy rely on it for its proven reliability under critical operating conditions.

Versions

Seven versions: how to choose the right self-lubricating bushing for your application

The BG../AG../CG.. series covers a broad range of applications. Selecting the most suitable version depends on the operating load, temperature, environmental conditions and required chemical compatibility.

  1. BG..A - General-purpose bushing with high wear resistance

High-strength brass body with twice the hardness of standard bushings. Suitable for dry-running or oil-lubricated operation, in dry environments or underwater, across a wide temperature range. The standard choice for general industrial applications, including plastic injection molding machines, medium- and high-voltage switchgear, molds, pulleys and sliding components. General-purpose High wear resistance Suitable for water applications

  2. BG..B – Bushing for high-temperature, low-load applications

Suitable for applications near heat-processing operations or in high-temperature environments with low loads. Commonly used in light industrial equipment and thermally stressed machinery. Low-load High-temperature Ideal for light industrial equipment

  3. BG..D – Pure bronze bushing for food industry and corrosive environments

Made from high-quality pure bronze. The ideal choice for applications requiring excellent corrosion and galvanic corrosion resistance, especially in the food and pharmaceutical industries and chemically aggressive environments. Corrosion resistance Excellent galvanic corrosion resistance Ideal for food industry

  4. BG..E – Aluminium bronze bushing for higher sliding speeds

Aluminium bronze alloy designed for higher sliding speeds in both dry-running and lubricated applications. The ideal choice when higher PV performance is required than can be achieved with standard versions. High-speed operation Smooth aluminium bronze alloy surface

  5. BG..S – Bushing for high loads and low speeds

Similar in structure to the BG..A, with a modified alloy composition that provides increased surface hardness. The ideal choice for high-load, low-speed applications or wherever higher surface hardness than standard versions is required. High surface hardness Ideal for high-load, low-speed applications

  6. CG – Cost-effective bushing for light-duty applications

Cost-effective solution for moderate-load applications, offering a good balance between performance and cost. Typically used in mold guides, conveyor systems and applications where higher-performance versions are not required. Cost-effective Ideal for moderate-load applications Excellent for mold guide applications

  7. AG – 100Cr6 steel bushing for heavy-duty loads

100Cr6 steel structure offering excellent overall mechanical strength. Designed for support components in heavy-duty machinery, such as crane and hoist applications. Not suitable for exposure to water or acidic/alkaline solutions. 100Cr6 steel Optimal for heavy-duty loads

Performances

Design and performance features

Soluzioni progettate per durare, ridurre la manutenzione e mantenere prestazioni costanti.

Benefit

Lubrication

Dry-running self-lubricating — no external lubrication required During operation, graphite forms a thin lubricating film on both mating surfaces, preventing metal-to-metal contact without the need for additional oil or grease.

Benefit

Load

High static and dynamic load capacity Optimal performance under high loads and intermittent movements. Excellent impact resistance and low sensitivity to edge loading. Ideal for applications with misalignment.

Benefit

Temperature

Operating from –40°C to +300°C Excellent performance in extreme temperature conditions, both with and without pre-lubrication. Recommended for applications close to heat sources or in cryogenic environments.

Benefit

Environment

Resistant to contamination, water and chemical agents High dimensional stability in wet environments, making it suitable for marine applications. Low sensitivity to contamination, with excellent resistance to chemicals and corrosion. Provides good vibration absorption.

Benefit

Electrical properties

Electrically conductive: no electrostatic charge build-up The metal structure provides electrical conductivity and prevents static charge accumulation, offering a key advantage in applications with risk of electrostatic discharge or in ATEX environments.

Benefit

Friction

No stick-slip effect Smooth, consistent sliding performance without the stick-slip effect found in other materials. High thermal conductivity helps dissipate heat generated by friction.

Mounting

Mounting of dry-running self-lubricating bushings

Mounting is performed by interference fit using a self-centering tool with a shoulder and precision-ground surface. Alternatively, the component may be cooled to very low temperatures prior to insertion. The housing bore must have an H7 tolerance. The shaft hardness should be between 180 and 250 HB, with a surface roughness Ra of 0.2–0.8 μm, and higher than that of the sliding element.

Installation Mounting

  1. Self-centering mandrel with shoulderPrecision-ground surface to prevent damage to the bushing during press fitting.
  2. Cryogenic coolingAlternative to press fitting: cooling the component to cryogenic temperatures to facilitate installation.
