JFK plain bushings

PTFE and sintered bronze

  • Unhardened shafts
  • Linear and rotational movements

JFK plain bushings, also known as linear bushings or linear plain bearings, are sliding bushings consisting of an anodized aluminum alloy body containing two bushings (PTC..SL or PTC..RK Series) made from a steel strip protected by a few-micron-thick copper or tin coating, onto which a porous bronze layer with PTFE or PPS is sintered.

PTFE is a plastic material with an extremely low coefficient of friction, while PPS is a high-performance material with a cross-linked structure that allows for higher applicable specific pressure. Unlike ball recirculating bushings, plain bushings offer two key advantages: they can operate on unhardened shafts and also allow rotation around the shaft axis in addition to linear motion.

Both the heavy-duty BA and BAO Series and the light-duty BAL Series are supplied as standard with two wiper rings that continuously keep the shaft clean, extending the service life of the internal bushings.

Versions

Three series: how to choose the right linear ball bushing

The choice between the heavy-duty and light-duty series depends on the load and the available housing. The BA Series is dimensionally interchangeable with KB ball recirculating bushings; BAO with KB_O; and BAL with KH.

  1. BA Series - Heavy-duty, closed

Anodized aluminum alloy body, PTC steel bushings with PTFE/bronze. Dimensionally interchangeable with the KB Series ball recirculating bushings. Two standard wiper rings keep the shaft clean. Available with one seal (BA..U), two seals (BA..UU), or without seals (BA..). Heavy-duty series · Closed · Dimensionally interchangeable with KB

  2. BAO Series - Heavy-duty, open

Same features as the BA Series, with an open design for housings with a longitudinal opening. Dimensionally interchangeable with the KB_O Series ball recirculating bushings. Two standard wiper rings. Heavy-duty series · Open · Dimensionally interchangeable with KB_O

  3. BAL Series - Light-duty, closed

Light-duty closed series for applications with lower loads. Dimensionally interchangeable with the KH Series ball recirculating bushings. Two standard wiper rings. Reduced space requirements compared to the heavy-duty series. Light-duty · Closed · Interchangeable with KH

Performances

Design and performance features

Anodized aluminum body with PTFE/bronze bushings and integrated wiper rings for long service life on untreated shafts.

Benefit

Shaft

Unhardened · Reduction in production costs The main advantage over ball recirculating bushings: they operate on unhardened shafts, eliminating the need for shaft heat treatment and its associated costs.

Benefit

Movement

Combined linear and rotary Unlike ball recirculating bushings, they also allow rotation around the shaft axis in addition to linear motion, making them suitable for applications with combined movements.

Benefit

Material

PTFE or PPS on sintered bronze PTFE provides an extremely low coefficient of friction. PPS allows for higher applicable specific pressure.

Benefit

Shaft cleaning

Two standard wiper rings The two integrated wiper rings continuously keep the shaft clean, extending the service life of the internal bushings even in environments with dust or contaminants.

Benefit

Temperature

The same operating temperature range as ball recirculating bushings, suitable for most standard industrial applications.

Benefit

Seals

One, two or none seals Available with one seal (suffix U), two seals (UU), or without seals to meet the different protection requirements of the application.

Mounting

Plain bushing installation

Unlike ball recirculating bushings, the shaft does not require hardening, but it must still meet the appropriate dimensional tolerance and surface roughness requirements to ensure proper fit with the PTFE/bronze bushings and effective sealing by the wiper rings.

Installation Mounting

  1. Checking shaft tolerance and surface roughness
  2. Bushing and wiper ring installationInstall the bushing onto the shaft, ensuring that the wiper rings remain correctly positioned at both ends to keep the shaft continuously clean during operation and extend the service life of the internal bushings.
