JFK Drawn Cup Needle Roller Bearings

JFK Needle Roller Bearings

  • Thin cross-section
  • High speed
  • Easy installation

Drawn cup needle roller bearings, also known as cup-type needle roller bearings, feature a thin-walled stamped steel outer ring with an integrated needle roller and cage assembly. The thin outer ring minimizes radial space requirements while maintaining good load capacity, making them suitable for applications where space is limited and rotational speeds are higher compared to typical NK/NKI needle roller bearing applications.

JFK Group offers drawn cup needle roller bearings in two main versions: open on both sides (HK series) and closed on one side (BK series), for end-of-shaft support applications. Every JFK drawn cup needle roller bearing is supplied with standard lithium-based grease lubrication, suitable for operating temperatures from –30°C to +110°C. As with needle roller cages, the shaft surface acts as the inner raceway and must be hardened and ground with suitable tolerance and roughness values.

Versions

Two versions: how to select the right drawn cup needle roller bearing

The choice depends primarily on whether or not a shaft end support is needed.

  1. Open drawn cup needle roller bearings on both sides - HK Series

The standard version. Outer ring open on both sides, suitable for intermediate shaft support applications. The needle rollers run directly on the shaft surface, which must be hardened and ground. Supplied with standard lithium-based grease lubrication. Open on both sides · Intermediate support

  2. Closed-end drawn cup needle roller bearings - BK Series

Outer ring closed on one side for end-of-shaft support applications. Same structure as the HK Series, with the difference that one side of the outer ring is closed, allowing the bearing to be positioned at the end of the shaft. Supplied with standard lithium-based grease lubrication. Closed on one side · End-of-shaft support

Performances

Design and performance features

Thin-walled stamped steel outer ring for minimum radial section and higher speeds compared to NK/NKI needle roller bearings.

Benefit

Load

High radial load capacity The linear contact between the needle rollers and raceways ensures high radial load capacity despite the thin outer ring section. Suitable for applications requiring significant radial loads in limited spaces.

Benefit

Installation space

Minimum radial cross-section The thin-walled stamped outer ring minimizes radial space requirements, making these bearings suitable for applications where space is the primary design constraint.

Benefit

Speed

Higher than that of NK/NKI bearings Thanks to their stamped outer ring design, drawn cup needle roller bearings allow higher rotational speeds compared to NK/NKI needle roller bearings, while remaining suitable for low and medium speed applications.

Benefit

Lubrication

Lithium-based grease · –30°C/+110°C Supplied with standard lithium-based grease lubrication, suitable for operating temperatures from –30°C to +110°C. Under normal operating conditions, no relubrication is required throughout the entire service life.

Benefit

Shaft

Hardened and ground The shaft surface acts as the inner raceway and must be hardened and ground with suitable tolerance and roughness values to ensure the expected performance.

Benefit

Versions

Open (HK) or closed-end (BK) The HK Series is open on both sides for intermediate shaft support applications, while the BK Series is closed on one side for end-of-shaft support applications.

Mounting

Mounting of Drawn Cup Needle Roller Bearings

Drawn cup needle roller bearings are mounted in the housing with an interference fit. The shaft surface must be hardened and ground before mounting. Lubrication is ensured by the standard lithium-based grease supplied with the bearing; no relubrication is required under normal operating conditions.

Installation Mounting

  1. Press fitting into the housingThe drawn cup needle roller bearing is press fitted into the housing, with the mounting tool applying the force to the outer ring. Before mounting, verify that the shaft surface meets the required tolerance and roughness specifications.
  2. BK Series: end-of-shaft mountingFor the closed-end version, the closed side must be positioned towards the end of the shaft to ensure correct axial support of the component.
