JFK ball bearing housings

JFK bearing units

  • Ready for assembly
  • Misalignment compensation
  • Static misalignment compensation
  • Various configurations

JFK ball bearing housings are complete, ready-to-install units that integrate a self-aligning ball bearing into a housing body. The spherical outer surface of the bearing and the spherical bore of the housing compensate for static alignment errors between the shaft and the supporting structure, simplifying installation and reducing sensitivity to mounting errors. The bearing inner ring is secured to the shaft using set screws or a locking ring, depending on the series.

JFK Group offers ball bearing housings in three main materials: cast iron, pressed sheet steel, and engineering plastic. Available in the most common configurations (pillow block, two-, three-, and four-bolt flange, and cartridge housings) in a complete range of sizes for shafts from a few millimetres up to large diameters. Each unit is supplied complete with bearing, seals, and lubricant.

Versions

Three materials: how to choose the right ball bearing housing

The choice of material depends on the load, operating environment, and hygiene requirements. The configuration (pillow block, flange, or cartridge) depends on the available mounting structure.

  1. Cast iron bearing housings

Grey cast iron · Moderate and heavy loads · Full range of configurations

The standard material for moderate and heavy loads. Grey cast iron housing with high mechanical strength and good vibration damping capacity. Available in the widest range of configurations: pillow block housings (SN, SD), two-bolt flange housings (SF), three-bolt flange housings (ST), four-bolt flange housings (SQ), and cartridge housings (SD). Integrated lubrication holes with grease fitting as standard.

  2. Pressed sheet steel bearing housings

Pressed sheet steel · Light and moderate loads · Cost-effective solution

Pressed sheet steel housing for lighter and moderate loads at a competitive cost. Mainly available in two- and four-bolt flange configurations. An economical solution for high-volume applications with non-severe loads. Lubrication hole with grease fitting as standard.

  3. Engineering plastic bearing housings

Housing made of corrosion-resistant engineering polymer, lightweight and easy to clean. Suitable for humid, food-processing, pharmaceutical, and chemically aggressive environments where metal housings would be exposed to corrosion. Compatible with standard steel or stainless steel bearings. Available in two-bolt flange and pillow block configurations.

Performances

Design and performance features

Complete units with integrated self-aligning ball bearings for static misalignment compensation and simplified installation.

Misalignment compensation

Static misalignment compensation through the housing's spherical bore

The bearing's spherical outer surface and the housing's spherical bore compensate for static alignment errors between the shaft and the supporting structure. They do not compensate for dynamic misalignment during operation.

Load

Depends on the housing material

Cast iron for moderate and heavy loads; pressed sheet steel for light and moderate loads; plastic for light loads in aggressive environments.

Lubrication

Lubrication hole with grease fitting as standard

Cast iron and pressed sheet steel housings are supplied with a lubrication hole and grease fitting for periodic bearing relubrication. Plastic housings can be paired with bearings that are lubricated for life.

Configurations

Pillow block, flange, cartridge

Pillow block housings for mounting on horizontal surfaces; flange housings for mounting on walls or vertical structures; cartridge housings for cylindrical bores. The configuration depends on the available mounting structure.

Bearing materials

Standard steel or stainless steel available

The housings can be paired with standard steel or stainless steel bearings for applications requiring high hygiene standards or corrosion resistance.

Mounting

Installation of ball bearing housings

Ball bearing housings are secured to the structure using bolts through the mounting holes in the housing. The shaft is inserted into the bearing bore and secured using set screws or a locking ring on the inner ring. Static misalignment compensation is achieved by allowing the bearing to align within the housing's spherical bore before final tightening.

Mounting methods

  1. Securing the housing to the structureSecure the housing body to the structure using bolts through the designated mounting holes. Do not fully tighten the bolts until shaft installation has been completed.
  2. Shaft insertion and securingInsert the shaft into the bearing bore. Align the bearing within the housing's spherical bore to compensate for any static misalignment. Secure the inner ring to the shaft using set screws or a locking ring.
  3. Final tighteningFully tighten the housing mounting bolts to the structure. Check the lubrication and add grease through the grease fitting if necessary.
